What I intend to say here

I am a VERY geeky guy. The fun that I have, all revolves around computers, C++ and high speed data transfers...

I love talking on core C++ as much as I do about MFC and how great Qt is, only if they published it under a license like the MIT open license.

Altough I am a great fan of opensource, I have my reservations about the GPL, probably because I don't even understand it well.

I love Digital Electronics, but tend to shy away from things like ABCD parameters and such nasty beasts of Network Theory. I kinda skipped my 1st year mechanics as I am doing my 3rd year Control Systems.

I love designing programs, as well as writing compilers. OS internals just turn me on - as do anything distantly related to systems programming.

So look forward to topics on these fields, but often interspersed with some dumb jokes trying to look witty ;)

Finally got my DSL router. And set it up in 30 minutes too

After more than 3 weeks since application for DataOne, I get my modem. The line seems to drop frequently, but I have to get down with my Solderon before I start blaming the BSNL guys.

I configured the SmartAX MT882 to use the USB interface and logged into the web console @192.168.1.1

After hacking around a little bit, and resetting the router once, I finally decided to do something useful - I configured it to dial out / PPPoE wihout installing the provided PPPoE software itself.

This is what the 'Summary' page gives me :

ADSL Link Speed
256 Kbps
ADSL Link Speed
1760 Kbps
Previous Tx-Rate
256 Kbps
Previous Rx-Rate
1792 Kbps
SNR
14 dB
SNR
8.0 dB
CRC
0
CRC
0
Attenuation
31.5 dB
Attenuation
40.0 dB

All the values seem to be OK to my very inexperienced eyes, but I can't still figure out why the line is getting so very frequently dropped.

Pradipta was the last one to phone today, and he did mention that he could barely hear my voice (even though I was shouting)

Gotta investigate.

Connected ? Seems so ...

Writing from home. Via a 256kbps connection.

Dreamt of this day since '99. And it finally happened. Nice.

I had promised myself that I would start a blog, once I got a "broadband" connection.

So here I am. This is my first post, on my first ever blog, for the first time ever.

How times change. Now only if they removed/increased the traffic cap on the account usage.

Around 2001, I used to drool over 64kbps ISDN connections. Downloading 12MB took a good 41mins (altough currently I can barely download files from "sharing" sites - but it maybe a setting in my firewall). Hmmm..

Gotta keep cool.
